September 30, 2009 (3 YEARS)

Today was our 3rd Anniversary! These past 3 years have flown by so fast. I am so lucky to have found such a GREAT guy to spend the rest of my life with. We got to spend most of our day on Route 66. I have always wanted to travel on this road. I did get to ride on it for a few miles in Texas a couple of weeks ago when we ate at The Big Texan. Today we spent several hours on it. It was so neat. We did not see the small old towns of course, because Route 66 would go off the interstate and then a few miles later would come back on. We stopped at a rest area in Missouri to get out and walk around, when we got there we found it all decorated with Route 66 stuff! I loved it!!

Get your kicks on........ Route 66
The mother road!

it even had yellow line on the sidewalk to look like a road!

We stopped a couple of weeks ago at a rest area and grilled some hamburgers. We ended up having to eat in the truck instead of a picnic table like we wanted. Sure wish that we would have known about this place when we had the idea to grill out. This sure would have been a good place to do it. Each little covered area had a table and some of them had two. I thought that is was very cute!

They had a map on the floor of Route 66.....of course there was no way of getting a picture of the actual states.

As close as we got to downtown Chicago!
Another doggie riding along.....this makes me miss my doggies so much more!
HAHA!!! People in Chicago forgot how to spell!
9.0 mpg....we have never been able to get gas mileage that high. Richard was so excited, it even got up to 9.4 for the last hour or so that we were driving last night.
Route 66.....we drove all along Route 66 today. We saw sign ever few miles that told you to exit if you wanted back on Route 66. I tried to get Richard to take it, but he wouldn't. It is going the same way that we are going too. We are going thru St Louis, Oklahoma City, and Amarillo, and that's the way Route 66 goes, but he won't do it. I figured if RV's travel it all the time, a big truck could fit right? I have already seen 2 signs that have advertised a Route 66 Diner, we did think about stopping there, but wasn't sure how far off the interstate it was. Maybe one of these days we can come to Chicago and start on Route 66 and follow it all the way to LA.

We woke up this morning to this beautiful view!
The sun was shining on the mountains, so the snow shows up a little better!

I love this picture, too bad the pole got in the way!
Bye Mountains!!! I just had to take one more picture even if it was thru the mirror!
These were too little dogs that were in a truck at a shipper.....the one closest to me tried to jump out of the window to play with Richard!
Nebraska.....I didn't think that we would ever get out of this state!

I woke up this morning and this sweet little dog was laying close to the truck. After I made sure that he was friendly by letting the other people walk past him, I got out of the truck. He followed me around, so I got back in the truck and throw some food out for him. I just can't stand the thought of letting a poor little dog go hungry.

We arrived in Colorado
Our first view of the mountains and we were still 30 miles away from Denver.
Denver
If you look really close, you can see the snow on the top of the mountain!
My camera does not do these gorgeous mountains justice. They are so pretty! We believe that are still about 40 miles away from the mountains right here. This will be the closest that we will ever see these mountains unless we drive our own car out here. Richard has heard horror stories about driving trucks on the mountains, so he hopes that he never has too.

You can see the snow here too, I know it is hard to see, but it is there!

I would love to live in these houses and wake up to that view every morning, especially when they are covered with snow!

Rocky Mountains

Loveland, Colorado

the Sweetheart City!!
And this was our view from the truck after we got stopped tonight!
I LOVE this place. This is my favorite place so far!

Here you can see the speed limit sign behind the state sign. It takes forever to go thru Illinois with the speed limit that low.
Chicagoland Speedway
Indiana
We have seen many deer while on our trip along the side of the intestate. I have never been able to get a picture of one until now....
Ohio
Pennsylvania
and finally to the state that I have been wanting to go to since Richard got this job! I was so excited that I cut half of the sign off, but all it said at the bottom was I LOVE NEW YORK! I believe that I got the best part of the sign.
Got off on the same exit as Niagra Falls for our drop, but just did not have to time to drive the other 18 miles to see it....maybe next time!
Sunrise in Buffalo the next morning!
And I finally got to meet some friends of Richards. He fed these birds the last time that he was here and they remembered. We fed them crackers and bread. The crackers that I gave them were stale, so they didn't eat them, but they loved the bread.

drinking water
This bird had an attitude problem. He would not let any of the other birds eat, he thought that he was suppose to get all the bread.
He even stood on bread to protect it while watching the other pieces of bread to make sure the other birds were not eating it.

and I finally got to go on Broadway in New York....just too bad that it wasn't the one in New York City!
I LOVED New York and I hope that we get to go back and go to Niagra Falls one day soon! I also hope to go to New York City one day, just not in this big truck!
